Henry IVThe Winter’s Tale
This second experience of working with the Rogues has proved to me that their great achievements of last year were not just luck. This group works very hard and, more than that, they trust one another and openly admire one another and in this way create an atmosphere that allows them to give of themselves whole-heartedly and most generously. The result is a combination of risk-taking and innovative creativity that is a pleasure to behold.

The Winter’s Tale is a play that I have been wanting to do for a long time because of it’s challenging complexity and enormous emotional range. However, since adultery is not a particularly appropriate theme for young children, I kept it on the back burner all these years. It proved to be the perfect follow-up to Hamlet for these teens and they have taken up the challenge with gusto! We had illuminating discussions on all aspects of the play like, did you know that Bohemia is the modern-day Czech republic? (and consequently it is without a sea-coastŠ.didn’t stop good old Will Shakespeare!) and it has been wonderful for me to hear their thoughts and to participate in their process. I am honored that they trust me to be their guide in this exciting journey and I am immensely proud of them all. My thanks also go out to their patient and generous parents who drive us, feed us, sell tickets, sew costumes (not bears, unfortunatelyŠlong, ugly story) and do all manner of helpful things!

In closing I am also thrilled to report that these Rogues have been invited to perform in Fort Worth, Texas for public school children under the aegis of Imagination Celebration! We are very excited to be going to Fort Worth in February on our first ever CST field trip and hope that this will be only the beginning of our quest to spread the Shakespeare love!
