The Children's Shakespeare Theatre

AS YOU LIKE IT
This our second season has seen the Children's Shakespeare Theatre grow from a group that was barely large enough to do the last play to one that enabled two full casts for As You Like It! The group now numbers 42! This growth spurt was a very pleasant surprise and it has expanded our little community in many delightful directions.

This year the children took part in the production through more than just their work on the stage. Many of them sewed costumes, made set materials, and even helped to direct the younger members of the group during their workshops. In all of this, the children were assisted and guided by the most supportive group of parents any community of children could ever hope for. It is precisely this kind of positive dynamic that I have sought after all of my life. It is a great joy to see it in action and to know that it can work so beautifully. The energy of such a big group of people all working towards a common goal is electrifying!

This season had its trials as well. We learned that this two-cast method is not our favorite solution to having so many interested children. Next season we hope to make room for all of our members by producing two different plays through the course of a year: Macbeth and Much Ado About Nothing. This combination should offer something for everyone!

As always, we will learn by doing. The Children's Shakespeare Theatre is a work in progress. We hope youšll stay with our progression as we grow and evolve. Thank you for your support and encouragement.
