As You Like ItAs You Like It
I have had a few experiences lately where I am explaining the story of the play to someone and their eyes light up with delight and they say, “Wow! That's a great story! Who wrote it?” That being said, I am first and foremost ever grateful to the best storyteller I know! Over the years I feel that we at CST have developed a very happy and comfortable relationship with Mr. Shakespeare and I know in my heart that, were he here, he would delight in our efforts!

For instance, why not cowboys?! This theme was not as much a stretch of my imagination as deep space (last play). It takes only a small shift of thought to go from “foresters” to “outlaws.” After that, it all fell into place! The songs just kept popping into my head and I saw the whole evening taking shape. If I could, I would have made this even more of a musical, but I did hold back a bit so that Rosalind and Orlando could have their love story. And what a delight that is! Perhaps some of you have wished at one time or another to be in a different skin and see if people would see you and hear you differently. I think it is that experiment that Rosalind finds so intriguing once she settles into it. To experience life as the opposite sex for a little while would be quite an eye opener! Rosalind discovers a freedom she never had (especially if we were to play this in a 16th century context!). Orlando is able to relate to her and speak to her as an equal, where at their first meeting, when he falls in love with her, he canšt even speak! Let's hope that the easy camaraderie they develop can continue after they are married!

We hope you have found something to delight in this play. Thank you for your continued encouragement and support. With four productions (plus) this year we are striving to expand and bring you more exciting live theater. We believe that live theater is an opportunity to be in community and to share experiences and ideas. We hope that you agree and that you keep coming back!
